Thompson, co-author of A Shining Thread of Hope: The History of Black Women in America with Darlene Clark Hine, collaborator with Hilary Mac Austin on The Face of Our Past: Images of Black Women from Colonial America to the Present, has contributed to many other works on Black Women including the landmark encyclopedia Black Women in America.

"Black Suffragists: Representation in Public Spaces" An Illustrated Review
Duster is a writer, professor, and advocate for racial and gender equity in public history. She has initiated and supported dozens of initiatives to commemorate her paternal great-grandmother, Ida B. Wells, and other African American historic figures, and has authored, edited, or contributed to eleven books and many articles including Michelle Obama's Impact on African American Girls.

A Documentary Film in the Making About the Ida B. Wells Monument
Chicago filmmakers Laurie Little and Rana Segal are working on a documentary film about the life of Ida B. Wells and the creation of a monument honoring her work designed by renowned sculptor Richard Hunt.The monument will be installed on the site of the old Ida B. Wells public housing development in Bronzeville. A short trailer from the film will be shown along with a talk back with the directors.
