'Sound of Music Live!' DVD out Dec. 17
The Sound of Music Live!which recently aired on NBCcomes to DVD Dec. 17, courtesy of Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
Six-time Grammy-winning recording artist Carrie Underwood stars as Maria, the young governess who brings the joy of music back into the household of Captain von Trapp and his seven lively children. Among the others in the cast are Stephen Moyer and Tony winners Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti and Christian Borle.
The DVD also includes the NBC special "The Making of The Sound of Music Live!," giving fans an inside look.

'Happy Holi-GAYS and Straights' Dec. 13
Mark Ortega Entertainment and Paula Sinclaire will present "Happy Holi-GAYS and Straights"a show featuring holiday music and comedyat M7 Nightclub ( inside Circuit, 3641 N. Halsted St. ) on Friday, Dec. 13, at 9 p.m.
Along with Ortega and Sinclaire, entertainers will include comedian Carmela Nudo as well as 2013 Windy City Gay Idol Finalists Timothy Willy, Jonathan Smallwood and James Gavin. The night will also feature singer Britney Warren and pianist Peter Storms.

Dec. 14 'Slo 'Mo' show to benefit LGBTQ youth
In partnership with WBEZ, "The Slo 'Mo Spectacular: A Soulful Holiday Shindig" will feature jazz/R&B/hip-hop collective Sidewalk Chalk and special guests playing holiday favorites from Stevie Wonder, Wham!, Donny Hathaway, Mariah Carey and more.
The 17-and-over show will take place Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Bottom Lounge, 1375 W. Lake St., at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, and benefit Project Fierce, a new organization aiming to provide transitional housing and resources for homeless LGBTQ youth.
