For the second year in a row, Windy City Times, Chicago's weekly LGBT newspaper, has received a nomination from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Nominated in the same category are The New York Times and The Boston Globe.

The nomination was for the Windy City Times Generation Halsted series, an exploration of at-risk LGBTQ youth in the city. The 8-week series was overseen by Publisher Tracy Baim and written and photographed by three primary reporters: Kate Sosin, Erica Demarest and Bill Healy. Art Director Kirk Williamson designed the series.

"I am very proud of Kate, Erica and Bill for their incredible work on this project," said Baim. "They spent overnights, weekends and long hours making sure to record the voices of a wide range of youth and adults, service providers and government officials."

The entire series is available as a free PDF download through this link: www.windycitymediagroup.com/sign_up_to_rcv2.php .

Last year, Windy City Times' 13-month AIDS @ 30 series was also nominated for a GLAAD award, eventually losing to The Boston Globe.

The 24th annual GLAAD Awards will be handed out in three ceremonies over the coming weeks. The nominations are in a wide range of categories, including film, music, theater, broadcast and print media.

Other nominees include Frank Ocean, Adam Lambert, Rufus Wainwright, Scissor Sisters, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, ParaNorman, Cloud Atlas, Keep the Lights On, The New Normal, Smash, Modern Family, True Blood, Glee, Happy Endings, The Amazing Race, Seventeen, Rolling Stone, Ebony.com, CNN's Anderson Cooper 360, MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry, Caso Cerrado and People en Español.

For TV movie and mini-series, Chely Wright: Wish Me Away, How to Survive a Plague and Codebreaker are among the nominees.

In the category of Outstanding Newspaper Article, which is for any print media, gay or straight, the following were the nominations: "Black Church Reaches Out to Gay, Transgender Teens" by Meghan E. Irons, The Boston Globe; "Game Changer" by Andy Mannix, City Pages, Minneapolis, Minn.; "Generation Halsted" (series), Windy City Times; "Most Local School Districts Ignore State's Anti-Gay Bullying Law" by Phillip Zonkel, Press-Telegram, Long Beach, Calif.; "Turned Away, He Turned to the Bible" by Douglas Quenqua, The New York Times.

Outstanding Blog nominations are: Autostraddle, blac(k)ademic, Chicagoan Rod McCullom's Rod 2.0, The New Civil Rights Movement and Towleroad.

GLAAD announced 120 nominees in 25 English-language categories, and 33 Spanish-language nominees in eight categories. In the English-language categories, cable networks earned 21 nominations, while broadcast networks garnered 17 nominations.
