Chicago-based Ullo launches wine filter
Chicago-based start-up Ullo has launched a product that makes it possible for people to enjoy their wine without the added sulfites used as a preservative.
Developed by founder/CEO James Kornacki, Ph.D., Ullo purifies wine using a food-grade polymer filter to selectively remove sulfites while allowing the other compounds in the wine to flow through unaffected. Kornacki, who holds a doctorate in chemistry from Northwestern University, founded Ullo in Chicago in 2014.
An estimated 3 million people in the United States are sensitive to sulfites, resulting in allergic reactions or respiratory problems.
