COVID-19 Chicago Pride Parade, Pride Fest postponed UPDATE
2020-04-22

Statement from the 2020 Pride Parade Coordinator:

We are sad to announce that the annual Pride Parade will not take place this year on June 28. We announce this postponement in the hope that conditions will allow the parade to take place later this summer or early fall.

We have always felt that safety is the first priority for our participants in the parade; the hundreds of thousands of spectators; as well as all the city agencies and independent contractors that work so hard to make the parade a success every year.

We hope that there will be a possibility to re-schedule. However, If that is not possible, we know that the Pride Parade will be back in 2021 and for years to come.

Sincerely,

Tim Frye, 2020 Pride Parade Coordinator

Chicago Pride Fest

The Northalsted Business Alliance announced that Chicago Pride Fest, originally scheduled for June 20-21, will be moved to Labor Day weekend, Sept. 5-6.

"We will continually evaluate the feasibility of hosting the festival with local and state officials as the current crisis evolves," Chicago Pride Fest Chairperson Mark Liberson said in a statement.

According to the Northalsted Business Alliance President Ramesh Ariyanayakam, "Despite the current events, we remain steadfast in our belief that Pride should be celebrated far and wide, and we will be creating virtual programming to bring the community and indeed world together to celebrate." More details are expected in the coming month.

At this time, Northalsted Market Days remains on the calendar for the weekend of Aug. 8-9.

Also, regarding the Chicago Pride Parade, organizer Tim Frye ( husband of the late Rich Pfeiffer, who had been the event's organizer until his death last year ) emailed Windy City Times that he had not heard from city and state officials regarding postponement/cancellation. Frye added, "Unless something astonishing happens, I think it's unlikely we'll be on for June 28. Of course, astonishing things seem to happen every day."
