Joanna Furnans may be the only dancer on view in Doing Fine, Aug. 22-Sept. 8 at the grey space, but the world premiere work is the result of a year-long collaboration between a half-dozen artists, while Furnans was Chicago Dancemakers' Forum Lab Artist, a Schonberg Fellow, and a High Concepts Labs Incubation artist. Doing Fine transforms Furnans' autobiographical writing into performance exploring memory, anxiety, injury, isolation, dedication, love, community and the contradictions of a dancing woman's presence in performance. The movement material was developed with dance artists Lu Yim ( Portland ), Deborah Goffe ( Holyoke ), Morgan Thorson ( Minneapolis ), and Molly Shanahan ( Philadelphia/ Chicago ). The writing was edited by Chicago author Barrie Jean Borich. Doing Fine features Erica Ricketts' original sound score and a dynamic site-specific installation by visual artist Christine Wallers. Audiences are limited to 20 per performance at the grey space, 1803 W. Byron Ave., #104.
