—The Giant Penny Whistle—a new neighborhood tavern and live music venue—is opening soon in Pilsen at 1854 S. Blue Island Ave. It's in a 5,000-square-foot space that had been home since the 1970s to Tito's Hacienda, a taqueria and bar. General Manager Brad Hoffman developed the reliable menu of beers and cocktails, inspired by the history of Pilsen. The Giant Penny Whistle's name is a reference to scientific experiments from the 1960s that explored the effects of low-frequency sound on the human body.

—Asadito—the West Loop's new addition with counter service and more than 2,000 variations of margaritas—recently debuted authentic new dishes as well as an outdoor patio. New options include the Bistec de Asadito Taco ( flank steak, caramelized onion, guasacaca; $4 ), Kale and Hominy Salad ( arugula, pepitas, queso fresco, pozole verde vin; $8 ) and more.
