The Washington Blade has reported thatin a stunning reversal from 2016the LGBT group the National Log Cabin Republicans has endorsed President Trump for re-election, asserting he "met his commitments" to LGBT people.
Robert Kabel and Jill Holmanchair and vice chair of Log Cabin, respectivelyannounced the endorsement in an op-ed for the Washington Post, citing the Trump administration's plan to beat the HIV epidemic by 2030.
Trump's administration has been responsible for numerous anti-LGBT developments, among them the transgender military ban, the exclusion of LGBT people from the enforcement of civil-rights laws and actions undermining LGBT rights in the name of "religious freedom." Most recently, the Department of Labor announced a proposed rule that would undermine President Obama's 2014 executive order against anti-LGBT workplace discrimination, allowing federal contractors to fire and refuse to hire LGBT employees on the basis of religion.
In 2016, the Log Cabins declined to endorse Trump.
