Foxx reveals thoughts in Smollett case emails

Thousands of emails and other communications revealed that Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx was involved in the Jussie Smollett case—even after she recused herself, The Chicago Tribune reported.

Among other things, Foxx told her top deputy that Smollett was a "washed up celeb who lied to cops" and the number of felony counts he faced ( 16 ) was excessive. Foxx's office made public thousands of internal texts and emails after the Tribune requested them.

Smollett—who is African-American and openly gay—had been indicted on 16 counts of disorderly conduct on charges he staged a hate-crime attack on himself on Jan. 29. Foxx's office later dropped all charges against Smollett, creating controversy.

Foxx recently penned an op-ed in the Tribune in which she wrote her office was uncertain of a conviction, although she offered no specifics.
