WMG's Her Mark Honoree: Sandra Perlow

We visited Chicago artist, Sandra Perlow in her studio recently to discuss details in regards to WMG's 'Her Mark: 26th Anniversary Gala' where we will honor this terrific artist, board member and long-time supporter.

Sandra Perlow has a extensive history as an artist, teacher and supporter of the arts. She studied painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute, where she received a B.A.E. and M.F.A. and she received a printmaking degree from the Illinois Institute of Design. She taught for many years at both the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and at Columbia. Besides being a supporter of WMG, both she and her husband, Michael Perlow were long-time supporters of the Hyde Park Art Center. So many people who have exhibited at WMG and who are supportive of WMG's mission, also know Sandra Perlow.

Sandra will never run out of art supplies because her studio is above Dick Blick Art Supplies on the corner of State Street and Monroe in Chicago. Everything in Sandra's environment gives evidence of heavy-duty creation. The studio has two large work tables and several chairs, all covered with tubes, paints, brushes, pastel sticks, pencils, magazines, books, cut-outs, photos, sketch books, all used and mingling happily on interesting mixed media surfaces. Walls are covered with art in various creative stages, from a few blocked out lines and shapes to finished works framed simply on white background underneath white frame. There are photos from trips to Europe and various mementos, art by other people, scraps of fabrics and papers in a variety of patterns and colors, all helping to inspire Sandra to create her unique and bold mixed media collage works.

Sandra is the recipient of various honors, including residencies at Yaddo, the American Academy in Rome, the Chicago Artist Coalition, and The Spertus Institute. She has lectured about her work at The Art Institute of Chicago and her work has been exhibited at Dubhe Carreno Gallery, the Rockford Museum, the Brauer Museum, and Linda Warren Galleries, among others.

See more about Sandra Perlow on her website: sandraperlow.com and feel free to contact her if you wish to make a studio visit. Sandra loves to share her art and her artistic life.
