LOS ANGELES, CA ( March 5, 2018 ) - Today ARRAY Releasing announces the film collective's eighteenth feature film acquisition, JEWEL'S CATCH ONE. Marking the second feature from woman filmmaker C. Fitz, the documentary explores the legacy of America's oldest Blackowned disco club as well as the life of businesswoman and activist, Jewel Thais-Williams, who provided safe spaces for LGBTQ, Black and AIDS impacted communities in Los Angeles for four decades. ARRAY has acquired worldwide distribution rights and will debut JEWEL'S CATCH ONE on May 1 with a national screening tour and simultaneous release on Netflix. The announcement was made by ARRAY Founder Ava DuVernay.
Ms. Fitz's JEWEL'S CATCH ONE is an electric and melodic journey highlighted by exclusive interviews with Sharon Stone, Thelma Houston, Evelyn "Champagne" King, Madonna, Sandra Bernhard, Thea Austin, Jenifer Lewis, Representative Maxine Waters and Bonnie Pointer. CCH Pounder narrates this historically important film rich with music from the last forty years. "Through her film, documentarian C. Fitz shows how one woman created an inclusive venue and sense of belonging in a major U.S. city," explained ARRAY's Vice President Tilane Jones. "We're excited to add this meaningful work to ARRAY's catalog and we look forward to building conversations with audiences worldwide about the story's themes of activism and representation."
The deal was negotiated by Gordon Bobb of Del, Shaw, Moonves, Tanaka, Finkelstein & Lezcano on behalf of ARRAY as well as Elsa Ramo and Tiffany Boyle of Ramo Law for the filmmakers.
