ELECTIONS 2018 Raila back in Cook County assessor race
2018-03-15

Andrea Raila is back in the Cook County assessor's race.

Last month, a Cook County judge upheld a county electoral board's earlier order to remove Raila's name from the ballot for the Democratic primary based on a pattern of fraud in her nominating petitions, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

However, on March 14, the Illinois Appellate Court reversed the lower court's ruling—meaning not only does Raila stay on the ballot, but early votes cast for her will count.

According to a campaign press release, Raila—the first Democratic woman to ever run for the post—has almost 40 years of professional experience representing taxpayers in the property-tax assessment process.

"My two opponents—Joe Berrios and Frederick Kaegi—are attacking each other every day and neither has proposed a real plan to reform Cook County property tax assessments and cut property taxes for everyday homeowners," Raila added.
