The work of e. nina jay, Chicago-based African American lesbian poet and spoken word artist, is featured in the new film Body of Rooms, based on her book of the same name.

This is a powerful, dramatic exhibition of an artist, a camera and the raw words and emotions of a Black woman navigating the U.S. during a time of #metoo, systemic violence, sexism, homophobic and racism.

e. nina jay uses poetry as a tool of survival and to break silences around all forms of violence against girls and women, with particular focus on the intersections of race, sexuality and poverty. As a survivor of incest and rape, e. nina jay believes women and girls can create powerful community to fight against the violence and constant degradation that weaves itself into every facet of our lives, by breaking silences and unraveling shame.
