Serbia has first lesbian leader
2017-06-21

Serbia leader Aleksandar Vucic has named public administration minister Ana Brnabic as the new prime minister, Deutsche Welle reported.

Brnabic is now the first woman—as well as the first openly gay politician—to lead the European country. This is seen as a major step for Serbia, which is considered a pretty conservative nation.

She will take over for Vucic, who recently took over as president.

Vucic's nomination happened a day after Leo Varadkar was officially elected as the prime minister of Ireland, becoming the first openly gay man to hold this position.
