Friends of the Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame showed their appreciation to the community June 16 by hosting the 24th annual Pride and Joy Reception at the Center on Halsted.
The event is held every year as a way to bring Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame inductees together and serve as a network so that locals can meet the people who work to create a warm Pride community.
Attendees were offered light hors d'oeuvres, drinks and plenty of time to mingle. Later there were three vibrant performances of Steamworks: The Musical and other surprises. Steamworks: The Musical depicts the story of a young gay man looking for love in Chicago who stumbles upon the Boystown bathhouse Steamworks, leading him to further explore his sexuality. The performanceincluding several dance segments and live vocalswas met by roaring applause.
Other performances included a lip-sync performance by drag king Dimples and a five-minute musical interpretation of the Wizard of Oz by Molly Brennan.
Gary Chichester, chair of the Hall of Fame, noted that it was important to him that there was a performance for every type of member of the LGBT community.
