Feminist Frequency sets its sights on Trump in new show
2017-05-18

San Francisco, CA—Today, Feminist Frequency premieres the second episode of their brand new series, The FREQ Show! In "The Unmanning of Trump," host Anita Sarkeesian examines how so much of the humor used to criticize and mock our 45th president resorts to homophobic and body-shaming rhetoric, or reinforces the very ideas of traditional masculinity that helped propel Trump to the White House in the first place.

Speaking about the origins of The FREQ Show, Sarkeesian said, "I felt it was crucial that our new project respond directly to the issues arising in the era of Trump. All the racism, the misogyny, the transphobia that Trump's presidency is crystallizing in our culture have been reflected and reinforced in our media for a very long time. Our hope is that by illuminating these connections for people, we can continue doing what we've always done—giving people the tools and the vocabulary to think more critically about, and to resist, the normalization of sexism, racism and other structural oppressions in our society."

Throughout the month of May, the organization is also running a fundraising campaign to help them continue producing The FREQ Show which, like all of Feminist Frequency's programming, will be freely available without ads on YouTube. Thanks to generous contributions from supporters, they're now over halfway to their goal of raising $20,000 by May 31st.

Feminist Frequency is a not-for-profit educational organization that analyzes modern media's relationship to societal issues such as gender, race, and sexuality. We strongly advocate for the just treatment of all people online and believe that media is an essential tool for eradicating injustice.
