The progressive group Southwest Suburban Activists will hold the Equality March for Unity and Pride on June 11 at Breidert Green in Frankfort.
Southwest Suburban Activists is a group committed to fostering more progressive and diverse political candidates in Frankfort, a community that has historically been quite conservative, said Emily Beigel, who founded the group. Since its inception in January, the group has had postcard parties, a women's march on International Women's Day and a vigil in remembrance of Syrian refugees.
"In an urban area like Chicago these kinds of events are expected, but in Frankfort, it is truly revolutionary," Beigel added. She further noted that, "Hosting the Equality March was a natural extension of our activism, our supporting of all people, and our desire to push the envelope in our area."
