This Saturday at 3pm sex workers and allies in Chicago will stage a solidarity march and protest of the criminalization of sex work and the raid on the male adult advertising website, rentboy.com. The march will begin at the Center on Halsted and proceed south to Belmont Avenue, where organizers will distribute information.
The Chicago march is one of four actions around the country this week for decriminalization of sex work following the Rentboy.com raid. Other protests are planned in New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
"In light of the recent raid on RentBoy and in solidarity across the country, sex workers and allies here in Chicago say; ENOUGH!" according to a statement on the action event page. "We are tired of being marginalized and criminalized and having our choices taken from us. It is time to make our voices heard, and our points clear. Decriminalize sex work and sex workers. May the string of recent events ( Rentboy raid, Backpage Credit Card Scandal, closure of MyRedBook ) bring the community together in a supportive, cohesive way."
