graysong's column for this week fell victim to the snaggle-toothed beast that is the Windy City Media Group mail server.
In order to keep your tongues wagging for more, please to enjoy this 'best-of' column ( as hastily compiled by the editor with a hangover ) .

Yesterday's tomorrow, today
blog.modernmechanix.com
The folks over at PopularMechanix offer you a glimpse of 'yesterday's tomorrow, today,' and what a world it was! ( is? ) The blog is basically just scanned pages from old Popular Mechanics or Scientific American magazines that extolling marvels of the day and the wonders that awaited us in the future. Marvel at the painless power eyebrow tweezer or the electric hallway monitor. Seems that the folks at Gillette aren't so darn clever after all. The Fusion wasn't the first five-bladed razor on the block and the French version from 1933 supposedly didn't need to be sharpened... and we can trust the French, right? Right?
All Your Base Are Belong to us

Stefan Landsberger collects Chinese Propagand posters. He has over 1700 of them in his collection and he has put quite a few examples up in an on-line exhibition. The gallery has many sections, icluding some like Foreign Imperialists, Heroes and Villains, and Hygiene. The graphics on many of them are reminiscent of US WWII posters ( think Rosie the Riveter ) . This is another of those times we can be glad the Internet is there to let one man share his obsessions with the Universe.
Now this is playing with a little pussy

God, I wish I could do this with my cats. It's a little cat-piano not unlike the Farting Nun one I featured many, many columns ago. The higher the note, the taughter the cat's tail is pulled for strumming. This will keep you amused for about 14 seconds. Then I recommend you head over to careerbuilder.com/monk-e-mail and send someone a Monk-E-Mail message. But don't use the text-to-voice option. Call in your message. OK?
