What do you get when you mix Gorey, Burton, and Crayola?

So where in the hell was the art of Deanna Molinaro when I was growing up? Her bug-eyed, Tim Burton-ish artwork and black-, yet light-hearted tales of child-eating monsters and alcoholic octopi are exactly the sort of thing that should have graced the walls and bookshelves of my childhood room—instead of that damn Winnie the Pooh stuff my parents tried to shove down my throat. I swear to God I spent the first 9 years of my life living in Camp Chippewa's Harmony Hut. In any case, make sure you read the two books she has online. In fact, the woman should be encouraged. Buy one.
Here, watching Paint dry might be interesting
www.lucidmovement.com
LucidMovement is a blog that features sloooooooooow motion videos of neat things: like a dropped water balloon that doesn't burst. They have a video of a bursting one too, but as it turns out the one that bounces and doesn't break makes for a way cooler video. There are also the requisite videos of things like light bulbs and picture tubes smashing. You do remember picture tubes, don't you? You know those big, heavy, pressurized glass things that used to be in TVs and computer monitors? Oh, never mind. For quick access to all the jiggling jello and exploding-things videos, check out their YouTube channel.
The real 'patch' Adams
www.realdolldoctor.com
I've covered RealDolls here before. They are creepy, über-realistic sex toys. Well, if you happen to be a little rough on your doll and break a limb, or rip her hey-nanny-nanny, what do you do? Why, send her to the real doll doctor who'll patch her up real good. Hell, he can even put an extra stitch in, if you know what I mean. Make sure you check out the surgery portion of his site where he documents his work. It might just make the more squeamish among you a tad queasy—especially the vaginal surgery section. Yowza!
This one's for work
flickrvision.com
FlickrVision simply loads a picture from Flickr and maps where the picture's poster is from. It's the simplest thing in the world, yet it's fascinating to watch. It's almost LavaLamp-hypnotic. I wish they'd make a screen saver version. I've taken to leaving a browser window running with the site loaded. I've probably lost 3-4 hours to it this week, all in little 5-10 minute dribbles of distraction. Sadly, I have an attention span that's shorter than the list of George Bush's accomplishments, so this is perfect—every 15-20 seconds, there's something new to look at.
