Fishing and flag football, crafts and a campfire.
The 2nd annual Women & Children's Labor Day Weekend Camping Fundraiser is filled with a wide variety of activities, spread of four days (Aug. 31 Sept. 3) at Hide-Away-Lakes Campground in Yorkville, hosted by the Windy City Animal Foundation and Sisters4GLBTQ Community.
About 250 are expected, up from 200 last year, and possibly as many as 30 dogs.
Organizers are hoping to raise $25,000.
"The highlight [of the 2011 event] was the atmosphere and the sense of community," said Joy Culver, one of the event's coordinators. "It's a fundraising event that offers an opportunity for the ladies to get together and truly enjoy that sense of community. That's been the inspiration since the beginning.
"It's really a special weekend."
Edith Nieves posted on Facebook that the annual event has, "so much you can do. Play flag football, Bags, Flippy Cups, Frisbee cups, go fishing, enjoy and participate in karaoke with Sue Heggeland or join a game of Texas Hold 'em etc."
The weekend's activities also include yoga, hiking, meditation and Mindy Bartlett's acoustic set and more.
