As of Jan. 1, an insurance exclusion for transgender surgery for Wisconsin state employees has been removed, WPR.org reported.
In August, the state's Group Insurance Board reversed itself to vote in favor of hormone and gender-surgery coverage for state employees.
The board approved the coverage in 2016but later reversed course at the request of then-Gov. Scott Walker. However, the board reconsidered the policy after two state workers sued and a federal judge ruled in a different lawsuit that the state could not ban Medicaid funds for gender-reassignment surgery.
