The Wellington Avenue United Church of Christ has sent out the following letter:
Dear Partners in Community,
The building at 615 W. Wellington Ave. has been the home of Wellington Avenue United Church of Christ for 105 years. During that long tenure the Congregation has always shared its home with other community partners. Our space has been used by theater companies ( including TimeLine Theater one of our current partners ), scout troops, youth programs, a homeless shelter, 12-step groups, daycare programs, a parent child care co-op, and many more.
As of March 1, 2017, we will be losing a valued community partner, the Broadway Youth Center ( BYC ), a drop-in center providing supportive services to homeless and marginally housed GLBTQ youth. Howard Brown ( BYC's parent ) is building out space in one of its facilities to house BYC and expand its services. We are excited for them and we are ready for something new to happen here at 615.
The space formerly occupied by BYC in our building, including:
- four separate offices
- a large classroom
- shared use:
two classrooms
a community room/dining room with kitchen
We are looking for new not-for-profit partners who are working to enrich our neighborhood and the world. We work on a shared expense model and the contribution level is dependent on a variety of factors. We are always open to proposals.
If you are interested, or if you know of others who might be a good fit for us, please contact us
at 773-935-0642 and speak to our facilities manager, Kathy Engert. To speak to me directly, please leave a message with Kathy, or contact me at my email address listed below.
Thank you for any support you can provide.
Sincerely,
Randall Doubet King
Church Council Chair
