WNYC Studios to present NANCY podcast with new LGBTQ community voices
From a press release

( New York, NY — March 1, 2017 ) — WNYC Studios — the premiere producer of top iTunes podcasts including Radiolab, 2 Dope Queens, andFreakonomics Radio — today announced the launch of its latest podcast, NANCY, on Sunday, April 9. Co-hosted by Kathy Tu and Tobin Low, two new voices in the LGBTQ community, NANCY features intimate and frank conversations, reportage, and immersive stories for and about people whose lives surprise and inspire.

Kathy and Tobin were the winners of WNYC Studios' Podcast Accelerator in 2015, a competition for up-and-coming storytellers and audio producers. They won the judges over with their infectious and hilarious rapport, their ability to get people to open up to them, and their pitch: a podcast that puts people across the LGBTQ spectrum at the center of their own stories. NANCY is inclusive, with tales of how we all define and redefine ourselves, and the weird, funny, and poignant journeys we take to get there.

"For NANCY, we wanted to make a podcast with stories we wanted to hear, where we don't pretend to speak for everyone but instead ask questions about what makes people different and the same all at once," said Tobin Low, co-host. "I'm excited to take all of this on with my best friend, Kathy. You'll hear about what it's like to come up in the LGBTQ community today, the power of intersectionality, our relationships to our families and partners, and whether or not Dumbledore is actually gay."

"NANCY is for anyone who's ever questioned their identity," said Kathy Tu, co-host. "We want to reinforce that we're here, and no one is alone. For Tobin and me, this podcast is a culmination of our desire to hear more stories like ours from the LGBTQ community and also our love of making audio, which is where our friendship began."

Over the course of the inaugural season, NANCY will tackle subjects ranging from pop culture and politics to coming out, LGBTQ representation, and family dynamics. Episodes include:

* Kathy's story of coming out to her Taiwanese mom, as facilitated by Google Translate;

Lessons from Orlando as the one-year anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting approaches;

* Comedian Pat Brown—who has recently appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and 2 Dope Queens—on sexuality as stand-up;

* With BuzzFeed News, a deep dive into the gay Republican agenda in the era of President Trump;

* Harry Potter… the gayest book ever?

* What is butch? And why is one lesbian so terrified of it?

"I'm so excited for this podcast," said Paula Szuchman, Vice President, On-Demand Content, WNYC Studios. "When you hear Kathy and Tobin together, you immediately want to live in their world, and that's a rare thing to find. We're thrilled to bring their fantastic chemistry and these memorable episodes to the world."

NANCY will release back-to-back episodes on Sunday, April and 9 and Monday, April 10. All other episodes will be released each Sunday through June 18. NANCY will be available at nancypodcast.org, iTunes, and all other places where podcasts can be downloaded.
