This was a hot summer that made me feel old and I hate that. I want to feel energetic and good.
I am not a big fan of soda; it is empty calories, and is rumored to give you cellulite. Who wants that?
So, soda dehydrates you; coffee dehydrates you; tea … you're right … dehydrates you. Have you ever had a lot of water and you still feel thirsty? Well, that is what has been happening to me. I just found out that no matter how much water I drink, if I am not having electrolytes then I am going to feel dragged out and tired.
Call me slow, but I just discovered electrolyte packets. They don't have the usual sugar of a pre-made drink, like Gatorade. You add the packet to a glass of water (or for me a bottle I carry around with me) and it provides fast and visible results.
I don't think of myself as an athlete ... I do play golf and am trying to get better at it; so we are not talking about a fast-moving sport. I do run, and work out, but I don't think of myself as a "sweater". Still in 100-degree heat, I do sweat and I get worn out. That is where the electrolytes come in. If you are real curious, do some research; check out those packets and see what works for you.
Let me know what health tips you have found to keep you healthy, optimistic and energetic as you age. That is my goal to go after prevention with a vengeance; to get healthy and stay healthy. Join me in that quest!

In another lifetime I was Nina Cortlandt on ABC's All My Children. Due to life's circumstances, my own sugar addiction and my son's diagnosis of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, I am on a journey to find out how my body works the best. I have studied at the institute for Integrative Nutrition and I am a Holistic Health Coach: I work with pre- and post-menopausal women who have fatigue and perhaps ensuing auto immune disorders that result from lifestyle and eating habits that are not working anymore; to find a new way to eat, a new great level of energy for all areas of life and to help them to design and transition to their ideals for a life of wisdom, sexuality, fulfillment, good health, energy and peace of mind. I also work with mothers who are trying to help their children explore a nutritional solution to the auto immune disorders they are diagnosed with. I know it felt overwhelmingly lonely and hard when we were working on my son's health problem.
