PFLAG event by Sidetrack May 8
PFLAG's "Kisses From Mom" event will take place on Mother's DaySunday, May 8at 3-9 p.m. in front of Sidetrack, 3349 N. Halsted St.
About two dozen PFLAG moms will give back this Mother's Day by rotating shifts throughout the event.
PFLAG Northern Illinois Council president Toni Weaver said that "PFLAG is accepting donations in exchange for a ( chocolate ) kiss from mom to help the organization advocate for a world where diversity is celebrated and all people are respected, valued and affirmed inclusive of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression."
Donations to PFLAG Northern Illinois will be accepted at the event, at PFLAGIllinois.org, or sent to PFLAG Council of Northern Illinois, P.O. Box 734, Elmhurst, IL 60126.
UN Association Chicago chapter to discuss human rights
On Thursday, May 5, the Chicago chapter of the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA), in partnership with John Marshall Law School, will host a day-long conference on human rights and the role of the United Nations.
The conference will focus on a variety of topics in human rights, including clean water and sanitation, LGBTI equality and the UN Universal Periodic Review process.
The conference, which will take place at John Marshall Law School, includes speakers from the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), the U.S. Department of Justice and Windy City Times.
The largest single network of advocates and supporters of the UN in the world, UNA-USA has more than 20,000 members, with 150 chapters in communities and college campuses nationwide. The Chicago chapter launched in 2004, and has more than 200 members.
