Chicago House's annual spring brunch May 1
Chicago House's 2016 spring brunch and fashion show will take place Sunday, May 1, at Morgan Manufacturing, 401 N. Morgan St.
Doors will open at 10:30 a.m., with the brunch/fashion show commencing at 11:45 a.m.
This year's event takes on a special meaning, as it will also serve as a farewell to Executive Director the Rev. Stan Sloan.
Tickets are $200-$300 each, with admission covering pre-brunch cocktails, art and flower markets, and complimentary valet parking. See ChicagoHouse.org .
'I Am Jazz' readings in Chicago in April, May
The Human Rights Campaign, through its Welcoming Schools program, is planning more than 100 readings of the book I Am Jazzby transgender teen activist Jazz Jenningsacross the nation on the same day.
In Chicago, at least three readings will take place. ( Note: The dates differ. ) They will be at:
Women & Children First, 5233 N. Clark St., on Thursday, April 28, at 7 p.m. The reader will be Searah Deysach, the mother of a transgender child and owner of Early to Bed, FtM Essentials and TransKids.
John Merlo branch of the Chicago Public Libary, 644 W. Belmont Ave., on Monday, May 2, 6-7:30 p.m.

Driehaus fashion awards April 29
Driehaus Design Initiative will celebrate the future of fashion by showcasing the talents of emerging Chicago fashion design students at The Driehaus Awards for Fashion Excellence.
The 15th-anniversary show and competition also will spotlight six student alumni who have since launched successful ventures. Themed "Reflections," the event will be held Friday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m. at at 700 S. Des Plaines St.
