Newberry Book Fair on July 23-26
The 31st annual Newberry Book Fair will take place July 23-26 at the Newberry, 60 W. Walton St., in the Gold Coast.
Opening hours are Thursday, July 23-Friday, July 24, 12-8 p.m.; and Saturday, July 25-Sunday, July 26, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
There will be more than 120,000 used books, music and collectibles. A couple highlights include an uncorrected proof of A Game of Thrones, the first book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, signed by George R. R. Martin; and photo albums sold during the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago.
On July 25, the Bughouse Square Debates will take place in Washington Park, just across from the Newberry's main entrance. At 12-4 p.m., visitors will have the opportunity to interact with a lineup of orators who mount soapboxes located throughout the park and debate topics ranging from gun control to the renovation of Wrigley Field.

Cannabis conference July 23-25 in Chicago
The My Compassion Cannabis Conference will take place July 23-25 at Navy Pier.
Among the many scheduled conference speakers are Dr. Robert Melamede, Ph.D., from the City University of New York; local criminal-defense attorney Ava George Stewart; and Joseph Wright, director of the Illinois Medical Cannabis Pilot Program.
Events include the "Medical Cannabis in Health Care" symposium, "Cooking with Cannabis," an exhibit hall and a dinner gala, among other items.

'To Have & To Hold' seminar on July 28
Charles Schwab will host a presentation and discussion of the legal and financial impacts of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide.
The Citywide Pride event will take place Tuesday, July 28, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 430 N. Michigan Ave., second floor.
Attorney Ray Koenig and certified public accountant Tom Franklin will discuss having public benefits, forming families through surrogacy or adoption, and protecting family through estate planning, among other topics.
