U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin ( D-Wisconsin ) has endorsed progressive Democrat Yoni Pizer for state Representative in Illinois' 12th state House district.

"Today, I am proud to endorse my dear friend, Yoni Pizer, for State Representative of Illinois' 12th District. After growing up together and attending the same high school, Yoni and I remained close through my political career. At every step in my own political journey, I would turn to Yoni for his counsel on our shared values and a warm heart and home in which I could always find support and love," said Baldwin, in a statement.

Media outlets have reported that state Rep. Sara Feigenholtz, currently representing the 12th District, is aiming to replace longtime state Sen. John Cullerton, who is retiring.

Pizer has served as the community liaison for Congressman Mike Quigley for the past five years, is a small business owner and has been a grassroots organizer for Democratic presidential candidates for several decades.
