WASHINGTON D.C. — March 13, 2017 — Trekr Adventures has announced that it will enter an all-LGBT racing team in the 2017 British Virgin Islands Spring Regatta. The BVI Spring Regatta is one of the top regattas of the Caribbean. It will be comprised of 150 yachts in 18 varied classes from around the world, competing across three course areas.

The announcement is the beginning of a larger partnership between Trekr Adventures and The Moorings that will focus on increasing the participation and visibility of the LGBT community within the sport of sailing.

"When we started Trekr, we were shocked at how many friends wanted to get involved in sailing but didn't know how," said Josh Seefried, co-founder and CEO of Trekr Adventures. "Our goal is twofold: First, we want to raise the visibility of the LGBT community in the professional racing community. Second, we want to encourage more of LGBT individuals to get involved in sailing. The Moorings—with its extensive bases all over the world—has been a solid partner in helping us realize that vision."

"By our very nature as a charter company, The Moorings is in a unique position to be an ambassador of the sailing community, and a logical first step for anyone interested in learning more about the yachting lifestyle," says Ian Pedersen, Marketing Manager for The Moorings. "Our goal is to empower everyone interested in sailing with the opportunity to get out on the water, and we are proud to partner with Trekr to help involve more of the LGBT community in this activity."

"The very nature of sailing is one that encompasses people from around the world and from every lifestyle. Thank you for advocating for the LGBT community and introducing or expanding the opportunity for everyone to go sailing," said Judy Pete, director of the regatta. "The BVI Spring Regatta is proud to offer a wide variety of sailing, from the professionally crewed boats, charters and privately owned. We have a class for everyone and every ( sailing ) boat. The Moorings has been a long time sponsor of the BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival and we welcome all their guests as our guests. We look forward to seeing you all out on the stunning waters of the British Virgin Islands."

For individuals or groups interested in getting involved, more information can be found at www.trekr.org/racing .
