Transgender violinist, vocalist to play Carnegie Hall

NEW YORK CITY, NY ( June 4, 2014 ) History will be made at New York City's world-famous Carnegie Hall, when accomplished violinist and vocalist, Tona Brown, becomes the first African-American transgender woman to perform at the storied Weill Recital Hall at 7:30 PM, on Wednesday, June 25, during LGBT Pride Week. Ms. Brown, whose notable achievements include singing the National Anthem for President Barack Obama, as La Principessa in the opera Suor Angelica, and her upcoming role as Delia in the new Netflix series City Lightz, will headline a truly unforgettable evening as part of the many celebrations of LGBT Pride in New York City.
Ms. Brown's stellar performances and matchless delivery of song and music have enchanted audiences the world over. At Carnegie Hall, Tona will perform classical and contemporary selections, including works by African-American composers, including Deep River and Dream Variations. "I'm privileged and thrilled to have the opportunity to make history on the Carnegie Hall stage," says Ms. Brown, This is the high point of my career."
Ms. Brown studied under such greats as Isaac Stern ( for whom Carnegie Hall's main auditorium is named ), played with the Shenandoah Conservatory, and recorded This Is Who I Am, a compendium of selections by African-American composers. She can be heard accompanying chart-topping, out R&B vocalist Nhojj, on his new album, Made To Love Him, and recently appeared as La Principessa in the opera Suor Angelica.
Joining Ms. Brown on the stage as Hostess and Emcee will be popular, out comedienneTammy Peay, and author, radio personality, and LGBT advocate Nathan James. Ms. Peay has been bringing smiles to audiences everywhere for more than a dozen years, and is a fixture at LGBT events and Prides, hosting such notable shows as the NYC Black Pride Heritage awards, Best Of Out Music ( BOOM ), You Are Not Alone ( DBGM ), and countless other concerts, comedy hours, and ceremonies. Tammy will bring her free-spirited, carefree energy to the stage as she speaks with lighthearted elegance about unity, strength, and the importance of equality for all of the LGBT community.
Adding historical perspective to the evening will be Nathan James, Executive Editor of GBM News and GBM Style as well as Political Editor for DBQ Magazine. Mr. James will highlighting the struggles and ingenuity of trans men and women whose courage and sacrifice have brought Ms. Brown to this world-renowned stage. He will lead the audience along the amazing path of LGBT history; beginning at the Stonewall Inn and traveling the road all the way to Carnegie Hall.
