Lily Tomlin will be one of five recipients of the Kennedy Center Honors this year—the first out lesbian to be chosen, according to Advocate.com . Numerous gay or bisexual men have received the Kennedy Center Honors, including Tennessee Williams, Stephen Sondheim, Aaron Copland, Edward Albee, Elton John and Merce Cunningham. The rest of this year's honorees are singer Al Green, actor Tom Hanks, ballerina Patricia McBride and singer-songwriter Sting. The recipients will receive their medallions at a state dinner Dec. 6; CBS will show the Dec. 7 gala on Dec. 30.

Lauren Morelli, one of the head writers for the popular drama Orange Is the New Black, is leaving her husband because she's a lesbian, according to Gay Star News. Morelli recently filed for divorce from her husband, television writer Steve Basilone. The couple had been together for a total of six years, married for two. Approximately 11 months into the marriage, Morelli realized she's a lesbian. She is currently dating Samira Wiley, who plays the Poussey, Taystee's lesbian best friend on the show, US Weekly noted.

A CD/DVD featuring Whitney Houston's first public performance—and her last one in 2012—will be released Nov. 11, according to USA Today. Whitney Houston Live: Her Greatest Performances is the pop singer's first live album. Her mentor, Clive Davis, said the album will showcase her legacy. Davis produced the album, which includes Houston's 1983 performance on The Merv Griffin Show, where she sang "Home" from The Wiz, and a 2009 performance on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Will & Grace star Eric McCormack has admitted that he does not think a reunion will ever happen, Digital Spy reported. Rumors of a special reunion episode emerged back in April, but were quickly shot down by the sitcom's cast members. Focusing on the relationship between gay lawyer Will Truman ( McCormack ) and his best friend Grace Adler ( Debra Messing ), Will & Grace originally launched on NBC in 1998; the show ran until 2006.

Bjork: Biophilia Live—the documentary film capturing the concert centered on Bjork's eighth studio album—has begun a limited series of premiere screenings at festivals, museums, libraries, galleries and cinemas worldwide. Furthermore, screenings in the United States begin at the IFC Center in New York Sept. 26, with further screenings in cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle and many more throughout the fall. The film documents the live show based on Biophilia, the multi-disciplinary, multimedia exploration of the intersection of music, nature and technology first released in 2011 as an album and suite of apps.

John Travolta is speaking out about gay rumors and a pending lawsuit filed against him by an alleged former lover, The Huffington Post noted. The Daily Beast recently spoke with Travolta about a 2012 lawsuit filed by Douglas Gotterba, a pilot who worked for Travolta's Alto airline company in the 1980s. Travolta said, "This is every celebrity's Achilles heel. It's just about people wanting money. That's all. It happens on many levels. ... Other people may attack it back more than I do, but I let all the media stuff go a long time ago because I can't control it."

The new season of The View—with Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O'Donnell, Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace—started off Sept. 15 with a bang, snagging 3.902 million viewers, the show's biggest overall audience in eight years, Deadline reported. The opening was also the long-running show's second biggest opening on record.

Snoop Dogg allegedly used a slur in an anti-gay Instagram message, and then deleted it, according to The Huffington Post. The post, uploaded to Snoop's Instagram account, consisted of a photo of two men in bed from another Instagram user's feed and the caption: "U n ya boyfriend since you like Jumpin on my page disrespectn bitch boy go suck ya man n get off my line f. A. G." In the past, Snoop said of out singer Frank Ocean, "It's acceptable in the singing world, but in the rap world I don't know if it will ever be acceptable because rap is so masculine. ... I don't have a problem with gay people. I got some gay homies."

USA Network's White Collar will return for its sixth and final season on Nov. 6, according to The Wrap. The series stars out actor Matt Bomer as a charming con artist who works with an FBI agent, played by Tim DeKay, to catch other white-collar criminals in exchange for his freedom. Tiffani Thiessen, Willie Garson, Sharif Atkins and Marsha Thomason co-star.

Gay music legend Bob Crewe died Sept. 11 at age 82, according to Frontiers L.A. Crewe was perhaps best known for producing and co-writing hit songs, including a long list of Top 10 singles for Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons such as "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Walk Like a Man" and "My Eyes Adored You." ( He also co-wrote "Lady Marmalade" with Kenny Nolan for Patti LaBelle. ) In 2005, Crewe played a supporting character in the multiple-Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Jersey Boys, based on the story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. Also, he is represented in the Clint Eastwood-directed film Jersey Boys.

The late Joan Rivers will appear in two episodes of the upcoming season of Celebrity Apprentice, according to TV Guide. Donald Trump tweeted, "We just finished shooting a new season of Celebrity Apprentice and happily for all, Joan plays my advisor in two episodes. She was great!" Rivers won season two of Celebrity Apprentice in 2009, raising more than half a million dollars for the charity God's Love We Deliver.

Speaking of Rivers, the routine surgical procedure that ultimately took the life of Joan Rivers was the result of an unplanned biopsy on her vocal cords, according to The New York Daily News. Medical experts said that the procedure should not be conducted outside a hospital. Rivers underwent the procedure at New York City's Yorkville Endoscopy, which generally deals with digestive issues. The clinic has denied even performing a vocal-cord biopsy.

Margaret Cho was among the guests at Joan Rivers' funeral in New York City, and she said it was unlike any sendoff she had ever attended, Gay Star News noted. "I think Joan Rivers really put the 'fun' in 'funeral," Cho said. "It was also the best place to be if you were a good-looking gay man, because there was the richest gay men in the world all coming together. If I was a gay man, I would have definitely kept my Grindr turned on."

The Imitation Game—the drama about the late gay World War II codebreaker Alan Turing that stars Benedict Cumberbatch—has reportedly emerged as The Weinstein Company's ( TWC's ) big Oscar hope, The Wrap stated. The Imitation Game looks to be TWC's best hope for a major awards film, its big opportunity for a contender to stand alongside past company titles like The King's Speech, The Artist and Inglourious Basterds. However, TWC may have gotten a good sign at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, where The Imitation Game won the Grolsch People's Choice Award.

The Talk co-host Sara Gilbert announced that she and her wife, rock songwriter-producer Linda Perry, are expecting their first child together, Today reported. Gilbert told her fellow co-stars that she would not be facing her fear of a cinderblock being broken on her stomach during their "Face Your Fears" week. "Before we go I just want to say I'm actually not going to do the dare," she said. "I was scared to do it and I really believe in facing your fears," she continued, "but I actually can't do the dare because I'm pregnant." The Roseanne alum, 39, and Perry, 49, tied the knot in March.

MTV's teen comedy Faking It will break new ground on the small screen in its second season when it explores what it's like to be born intersex, The Hollywood Reporter noted. ( Intersex is a physical condition that occurs when a person is born with both male and female chromosomes but their bodies typically develop as female. ) The second-season premiere will reveal that a character was born with androgen insensitive syndrome, a type of intersex condition that means she was born with male chromosomes but develops as a female.

Mary Lambert will hit the road for a fall headlining North American tour, which kicks off Oct. 19 in Toronto and continues through mid-November, according to a press release. The Seattle-based singer-songwriter is touring in support of her upcoming debut album Heart On My Sleeve, which Capitol Records will release Oct. 14. The album's first single, "Secrets," was released in August, followed by a version featuring B.o.B, and has racked up 1.1 million streams; its video has collected more than 2.5 million views on VEVO.

Avicii has cancelled all forthcoming live shows due to health concerns, according to Digital Spy. Spokespeople for the Swedish DJ confirmed that overriding health issues from a previous surgery has led to the indefinite cancellation of all pending appearances. Avicii ( real name Tim Bergling ) underwent surgery to remove his gallbladder and appendix earlier this year.

Brian Cox and out actor Zachary Quinto have been cast in the NBC miniseries The Slap, according to Digital Spy. The eight-episode domestic drama, based on a novel by Australian author Christos Tsiolkas, examines the repercussions for a group of friends after one person slaps another's child at a barbecue. Quinto is to play Harry, the married father of a 15-year-old son, while Cox will star as Manolis, the good-natured patriarch of the leading family. They join Peter Sarsgaard and Mary-Louise Parker in the cast.

After more than 50 years, Barbra Streisand made her triumphant return to late-night TV by taking over the Sept. 15 episode of The Tonight Show, according to The Huffington Post. The "Funny Girl" got things started right by singing a medley of duets from her new album, Partners—with host Jimmy Fallon standing in for Elvis Presley, Blake Shelton and others. After the performance, Jimmy had the singer/actress sit behind his desk, and the pair talked about everything from Fallon's singing ability to Streisand's old album covers.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling appreciates feedback from fans—but one reader rubbed her the wrong way when he attempted to attack her for making Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore gay, according to E! Online. "Once u revealed Dumbledore was homosexual I stopped being a fan," Frank Fraticelli wrote on Twitter. Rowling responded by telling the reader, "I advise you to start following Brian Souter at once. He's much more your kind of person." According to reports, Souter recently financed a campaign to maintain a teaching ban in schools regarding the acceptance of homosexuality.

Seventeen years after the last episode of Married with Children aired, Ed O'Neill, Katey Sagal, Christina Applegate and David Faustino—aka Al, Peg, Kelly and Bud—were all together again in honor of Sagal, who received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, E! Online noted. The timing of the ceremony coincided with thepremiere of the seventh and final season of Sons of Anarchy, the gritty FX series in which Sagal co-stars as motorcycle mama Gemma Teller.

Martha Stewart criticized Gwyneth Paltrow in an interview with Net-a-Porter, according to US Weekly. "She just needs to be quiet. She's a movie star," Stewart recently said. "If she were confident in her acting, she wouldn't be trying to be Martha Stewart." The 73-year-old previously dissed Paltrow, 41, and her GOOP site during an interview with Bloomberg Television in October 2013.

Showtime's Nurse Jackie has begun production on its seventh and final season, according to a press release. The series, which premiered in 2009, has won multiple awards, including several Emmys, a Humanitas Prize, an AFI Award for "Outstanding Television Program" and several Prism Awards for its depiction of substance abuse. The show stars Edie Falco, Merritt Wever, Paul Schulze, Dominic Fumusa, Anna Deavere Smith, openly gay actor Stephen Wallem and Peter Facinelli.

One day after the post-production crew of Bravo's Shahs of Sunset walked off the job in search of a union contract, the strikers took to the streets, Deadline reported. Led by the Motion Picture Editors Guild, a 20-person strong picket line went up in front of the Museum Square offices of Ryan Seacrest Productions. The fourth season of Shahs of Sunset is scheduled to debut Oct. 13; however, a prolonged strike could put that date in peril.

Off-Broadway's Second Stage Theatre just announced that it will no longer be producing the new musical American Psycho, the adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis novel and feature film that is trying to make its U.S. debut, Deadline reported. Benjamin Walker, who starred in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and the musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson,had landed the title role of Patrick Bateman that Christian Bale played in the film. Ellis' novel prompted furious protests from feminist and human-rights groups for its explicit depiction of the brutal torture and murder of women.

Blue Note Records will release Nostalgia, the seventh solo album from singer-songwriter Annie Lennox, this fall. Produced by Lennox and frequent collaborator Mike Stevens, the 12-track collection features fresh and hauntingly beautiful takes on iconic American compositions that continue to resonate as we face the complexities of modern life—songs such as "Memphis In June," "Strange Fruit," "Summertime" and "God Bless The Child." Nostalgia will be released on Sept. 30 on vinyl. The album will be available digitally, on CD and in a deluxe CD/DVD edition on Oct. 21.

Hundreds of fans gathered in Camden, north London, for the unveiling of a statue in memory of singer Amy Winehouse, the UK Guardian reported. The bronze sculpture—which sports Winehouse's signature beehive hairstyle, a star of David necklace and a live red rose in her hair—was placed in the heart of the Stables Market as a memorial to the singer, who died three years ago of alcohol poisoning at the age of 27. As the statue was revealed to the crowds, Winehouse's father, Mitch, planted a kiss on the cheek of the statue.

Openly gay former NFL player Esera Tuaolo sang the national anthem before the Green Bay Packers' game against the New York Jets in Wisconsin on Sept. 14 ( which the Packers won 31-24 ), according to Outsports. Tuaolo sang the anthem before a game once before at Lambeau Field—it was Oct. 17, 1991, a Thursday night game against the Chicago Bears, and he was a rookie defensive end for the Packers. ( He was not out at that time. ) Tuaolo is now mounting a campaign to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl.

Robin Thicke confessed he was high on drugs and alcohol when he wrote the hit song "Blurred Lines," The New York Daily News reported. The family of the late singer Marvin Gaye is suing Thicke, saying the song is a rip-off of the Gaye classic "Got to Give It Up." "I was high on Vicodin and alcohol when I showed up at the studio," Thicke said, according to a court deposition. "The reality is … Pharrell had the beat and he wrote almost every single part of the song."

True Blood executive producer Angela Robinson's new lesbian film, Girltrash: All Night Long, will be on Netflix Nov. 3, according to a press release. ( iTunes eatured the film on its LGBT Pride page as one of 40 films recommended in June Celebrating Gay Pride. ) Girltrash: All Night Long is the tale of five girls in one epic night, as they find sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll in this romantic musical comedy.

Anna Wintour is determined to reform John Galliano's reputation and reboot his career, Page Six noted. The editrix failed at getting Galliano a job at Oscar de la Renta after his 2011 anti-Semitic tirade in a Paris bar.Now Wintour's using a photo of his Dior work to announce "Chinese Whispers," the next blockbuster show at her Costume Institute, and exhibiting the Dior gowns he designed in 2003, inspired by Chinese opera star Mei Lanfang.

Tony-winning singer/actor Idina Menzel will release a Christmas album, Holiday Wishes, on Tuesday, Oct. 14, on Warner Bros. Records, according to a press release. Grammy Award-winner Walter Afanasieff ( Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey ) produced the album, which features such classic favorites as "A Holly Jolly Christmas" and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," as well as Joni Mitchell's Christmas-themed "River," one of Menzel's favorites. Menzel was recently heard as Elsa in Disney's global box-office smash Frozen, in which she sings the film's Oscar-winning song "Let It Go."

The New York Daily News reported that pop star Ariana Grande had a choice word for fans after a recent radio show visit: "Die!" While visiting a Manhattan radio station this summer, the "Problem" singer was reportedly all smiles for fans until she got into the elevator; then, she allegedly said, "I hope they all f—king die." Recently in Australia, her camp is said to have told photographers, "Don't use natural light" and "Do shoot only from the left side of her face"—evidence, some say, of Grande's diva antics. E!'s Giuliana Rancic is among those who say Grande has an attitude problem.

CBS pulled Rihanna's intro to its inaugural broadcast of Thursday Night Football—and the singer was not happy, USA Today noted. In light of the Ray Rice domestic-violence controversy, CBS said the intro didn't fit with the serious tone of its hourlong pregame show, which dealt with the release of a video showing Rice hitting his then-fiancee ( now wife ). However, the singer tweeted, "**** you! Y'all are sad for penalizing me for this." Also hanging over the planned intro was the 2009 incident in which Rihanna was the victim of an assault by singer and then-boyfriend Chris Brown.
