MTV Networks announced the launch of their new gay channel, LOGO. The 24/7 channel aimed at 24-49 year-old gay people, will begin broadcasting on Feb. 17. Ideas for the new cable channel have been in the works for nearly two years but faced internal challenges at Viacom, the parent company of MTV. LOGO will be carried on Time-Warner Cable and RCN, but Chicagoans may not be able to get it.
But here!TV will be first out of the gate with all-gay TV. They launch this year, in August, on DIRECTV. here!TV launched on DISH Network in March 2004 and is now available in more than 22 million homes nationwide. here!TV will launch on RCN cable systems Aug. 1, 2004 and the network expects to expand to approximately 40 million cable homes by the end of the summer.
here!TV's companion 24/7 pay television services will launch on Oct. 1, 2004. here!TV programming does not focus on inexpensive reality programming but on sophisticated motion pictures and story-form series. here!TV has acquired over 500 hours of feature films, documentaries and short-form programming from the Strand, Wolfe Video, and TLA catalogs and now reportedly controls the largest gay-themed television library in the world.
