SASEBO, Japan ( Jan. 25, 2017 ) Capt. Jeffrey Ward, commanding officer of amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard ( LHD 6 ), facilitates transgender training with chiefs and officers in the ship's wardroom. The training was conducted to provide command leadership guidance on transgender policy in accordance with Secretary of the Navy ( SECNAV ) instructions. Bonhomme Richard, forward-deployed to Sasebo, Japan, is serving forward to provide a rapid-response capability in the event of a regional contingency or natural disaster.
