In commemoration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender History Month, The Legacy Project announces the Dedication Phase III of Chicago's Award-Winning "Legacy Walk" Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, 3 p.m., 3311 N. Halsted.
The Legacy Project announces the dedication of seven bronze plaques commemorating poet Audre Lorde; iconic composer Cole Porter; acclaimed Olympian Mildred "Babe" Didrikson; slain Ugandan activist David Kato; astronaut Dr. Sally Ride; "The Saint of 9/11" Fr. Mychal Judge; and a commemoration of the riot that started a revolution - Stonewall. On October 11th these tributes will join the twenty-three ( 23 ) plaques of the Legacy Walk to create the largest collection of bronze biographical markers in the world.
PART I: DEDICATION CEREMONY | SATURDAY, OCT. 11, 35pm
The free on-street dedication ceremony for the seven new plaques being added to the Legacy Walk begins at 3p at the pylon located at 3311 N. Halsted. We will welcome each new plaque onto the street in a small ceremony conducted by youth participants in the Legacy Project Education Initiative ( LPEI ). The traveling celebration will move north toward the final dedication at 3707 N. Halsted. Participants may either meet at the first location and move as a group up Halsted, or gather at the pylon of their choosing to await the arrival of the co-celebrants. PART II: DEDICATION CELEBRATION | SATURDAY, OCT. 18, 36pm
Hosted by WGN-TV's Sean Lewis, this celebration will take place at LGBT Chicago's premiere entertainment venue SIDETRACK located at 3349 N. Halsted. The Award-Winning LEGACY PROJECT is the world's only outdoor museum walk and youth education program dedicated to combating anti-gay bullying by celebrating LGBT contributions to history.
