The Juliettes crowdfund their debut CD, "Clutch the Pearls"
From a news release
2011-10-14

Fresh off the international release of their first single, "Hooray, You're Gay", Seattle's fierce-foxy-fabulous femmes fatales, The Juliettes, (www.juliettesband.com) are now in the home stretch of finishing their debut CD, set for release in early 2012. To finish the album (tentatively titled "Clutch the Pearls") they have launched a Kickstarter project so that fans and supporters can play a pivotal role in helping this endeavor see the light of day and get the attention and backing it needs.

Affectionately known as "The J Team", fans of the band will have an opportunity to not only financially support the effort, but will be rewarded with a wide variety of benefits including a year's membership in the band's official fan club and getting the final tracks emailed directly to them. Donate at a higher level and the band will write individually tailored songs as a personalized thank you/love letter.

"Crowdfunding is an amazing way of accomplishing many goals at once," says Julie Mains, lead singer of The Juliettes. "First, we're giving people who already know us (and hopefully love what we're doing) a tangible way to help through meaningful, financial support in a formalized setting. Backers can give as little as a dollar or as much as funding the entire amount. It also gives us the opportunity to reach out to people who have not yet discovered our work. Plus, it's all about community, generosity and altruism. And we need a lot more of that in this world."

The goal of the project is a modest $10,000, which will cover professional-grade production, mixing and mastering, plus pressing, promotion, distribution and merchandise. It's an undertaking that would otherwise leave the band indebted to an investor or label for costs.

"A tiny pile of gorgeous, gorgeous money covers all our fixed costs and gets us across the finish line," says Mains. "Major label support is either a needle in a haystack or a thing of the past. Now we get to hire who we want and put our art out without the interference of a suit who doesn't know what to do with us or doesn't truly believe in us. Forgive me for mixing my lyrics, but these sisters are doin' it for themselves with a little help from our friends."

DEADLINE: October 28 at 7am. It's all or nothing.
