In Vantaa, Finland, Team USAthe reigning world-champion women's tackle football teambegan its title defense by crushing Sweden 84-0 in the 2013 Women's World Championship June 30.
It was the largest margin of victory in tournament history and featured contributions from various Chicago Force players. Chicago Force quarterback Sami Grisafe completed 12 of 16 attempts for 220 yards with 3 TD (touchdown) passes and added a rushing TD. Among other players who scored were Cassey Brick (three touchdowns); Odessa Jenkins (two); and Adrienne Smith, Jeanette Gray, Ashley Berggren, Brandy Hatcher and Katie Sowers (one each).
Team USA plays again on Thursday July 4 against Germany. A win would guarantee a place in the gold-medal game.
Team USA won the inaugural tournament in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2010.
