For some reason, people don't consider Florida technically the South but they should try heading even farther down the pike to the southeastern part of the state to the unique city of Miami.
A mix of accentsfrom Southern to Latin to high-society dialectscan be found. This is a metropolitan area with a strong artist community and shopping galore. The luxurious Miami Beach Edition hotel has a resort feel to it, with a private beach club, rooftop deck and restaurants. Located inside the hotel is the Matador Terrace, with a Latin-flavored brunch with such items as sweet-pea guacamole and Florida black grouper tacos.
Another brunch to not miss is Cecconi's, with both indoor and outdoor dining opportunities in the courtyard of Soho Beach House. This Italian hotspot features home made pasta and fresh seafood.

Nearby is the Bass Museum of Art, which is currently closed for renovation but will reopen in the fall of 2016. The park outside is beautiful with this contemporary museum full of exhibitions within walking distance of many hotels on the strip.

As far as gay bars, the very popular Twist on Washington Avenue was lots of fun, with cute go-go boys and dark rooms. Just hold onto your wallet and to play it safe.
Beware of the Everglades nearby, as alligators have been spotted crossing the highway. For safe wildlife visits, try the Everglades Safari Park, where 30 species of primates can be found going bananas while swinging and swimming.
