THEATER SPOTLIGHT Always … Patsy Cline
2019-11-15

Back then, stars traveled without entourages, stayed at motels, flew single engine planes and were easier to meet. Houston housewife Louise Seger met Patsy Cline in 1961 and they became friends and pen pals, until Cline's small plane death. Cline could be just folks with Seger, without professional demands. Always … Patsy Cline portrays their friendship and showcases two dozen songs Cline recorded. It's thin material dramatically speaking, although heartfelt, and Chicago has seen previous productions of this 1997 show. Still, female-centric Firebrand Theatre Company reinvigorates this familiar material by presenting two performers, Harmony France and Christina Hall, alternating as Louise and Patsy, under director Brigitte Ditmars and musical director Andra Velis Simon, a good team. Always … Patsy Cline is at The Den, 1331 Milwaukee Avenue, through Dec. 15: firebrandtheatre.org .
