The Gender & Justice is desperately needed because the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention reports that girls are the fastest growing population in the juvenile justice system.
According to the report Gender Injustice: System Level Juvenile Justice Reform For Girls, Girls of color and girls who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and gender non conforming are found to be disproportionately involved in the juvenile justice system ( LGBTQ/GNC ).
The National Crittenton Foundation, reports that the juvenile justice system is incapable of meeting the needs of girls who are especially vulnerable to victimization.
