CHICAGO, Ill. ( April 27, 2015 ) The Chicago History Museum is proud to welcome acclaimed story-teller and StoryCorps founder, David Isay, who will lead an evening of insightful conversations at the final 2015 Out at CHM event, StoryCorps OutLoud on Thursday, May 7 at the Museum.
"David Isay is an important voice in the oral history tradition, and the Out at CHM series is thrilled to have him speak as an ally working to preserve LGBT stories as part of StoryCorps," said Michael Cansfield, producer of the OUT at CHM programs.
Celebrate twelve years of Out at CHM, the Chicago History Museum's program series exploring LGBT issues. The event opens with a drinks and appetizers reception at 5:30 p.m. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Museum's Chicago Room.
Isay is the recipient of numerous broadcasting honors, including six Peabody Awards and a MacArthur Genius Fellowship. He will be joined by Jennifer Brier, University of Illinois gender studies professor for a discussion on StoryCorps OutLoud, a multi-year initiative dedicated to recording and preserving LGBTQ stories across America.
Isay will sign copies of his book: "Ties That Bind: Stories of Love and Gratitude from the first 10 Years of StoryCorps."
StoryCorps is a nonprofit oral history organization that honors and celebrates the lives of everyday people through listening. To date, more than 90,000 people have participated in StoryCorps. Millions more hear StoryCorps each week on NPR.
The event is a $20 and $15 for Museum members and students.
