Following the murder of gay college student Matthew Shepard in 1998, playwright/director
Moises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project conducted hundreds of interviews
in and around the University of Wyoming in what became the acclaimed and influential stage
docudrama The Laramie Project.
This ensemble piece explores anti-gay violence, homophobia, tolerance and so much more.
And in the wake of the death of anti-gay preacher Fred Phelps ( who appears in the play ), Green-
Man Theatre's production of The Laramie Project in Elmhurst takes on an extra layer of newsworthiness.
GreenMan Theatre's production of The Laramie Project plays from April 4 to April 13 at
Asbury Hall at First United Methodist Church, 232 S. York St., Elmhurst. Tickets are $17, $15 for
students and seniors; call 630-464-2646 or visit www.greenmantheatre.org . Photo courtesy of
