PFLAG National will honor honor NFL players Brendon Ayanbadejo of the Baltimore Ravens and Chris Kluwe of the Minnesota Vikings (Straight for Equality in Sports) as well as award-winning author John Irving (Straight for Equality in Literature) at the fifth annual Straight for Equality Awards Gala April 4 in New York City, according to a press release. Ayanbadejo and Kluwe have been staunch marriage-equality supporters; in 2012, Irving released the book One Person, in which "the hero of this novel is a bisexual man [and] the people he heroizes are two transgender women."
Danica Patrick became the first woman to win the pole position for the Daytona 500considered the Super Bowl of NASCARposting a lap of 196.434 mph, according to CNN.com . Patrick told CNN's Don Lemon, "Your passion is what matters [instead of gender]and that's cool." She will start her No. 10 GODADDY Chevrolet in the front row Feb. 24 alongside Jeff Gordon.
