The actual volleyball was secondary Sunday at the second annual Spike'd, Chicago's only beach cocktail party & drag volleyball extravaganza hosted byand benefitingthe HIV/AIDS-services agency Chicago House.
It was way more about lipstick and, um, just looking pretty.
Four teams competed in the volleyball action, including the "Southern Baptist Bitches," who ultimately were the champions, defeating the "Jon Benet Ramseys." Thankfully, the sun shone throughout, so no outfits were ruined.
"It was a fantastic event and I think everyone really had a great time," said Rev. Stan Sloan, CEO of Chicago House.
The event raised more than $5,000 and more than 150 attended.
The "Jon Benet Ramseys" were honored as the Best Dressed.
"The event grew leaps and bounds over last year; it really was great," said Jeremy Hilborn, manager of special events for Chicago House. "I'd love to see more people come and enjoy the event. There seems to be a misconception that, if you don't play volleyball and you're not into drag, then it wouldn't be a fun event. That's anything but the case; there's the beach, great food, great music, cold drinks, hot boys and something to laugh at on the sidelines. I really hope a lot more people come to it next year."
The event chairmen were partners Paul Trout and Andrew Edeker.
