AIDS Run & Walk Sept. 26 at Soldier Field
This year's AIDS Run & Walk Chicago, hosted by the AIDS Foundation of Chicago ( AFC ) and benefiting 35 other community organizationsknown as CommunityDirect partnerson Saturday, Sept. 26, at Chicago's Soldier Field.
This year's message is "Put your foot down." In a statement, AFC President/CEO John Peller said, "We want supporters to put their foot down and make a difference in this epidemic, especially among communities most impacted by HIV."
The 35 CommunityDirect partners that will raise funds through this year's event will receive 90 percent of all money raised by their teams. Last year, the 32 CommunityDirect teams raised a combined $270,000.
Event registration is $40 in advance for 5K walkers, and $50 for 5K or 10K runners. To register as an individual or as a team, or to donate to a CommunityDirect team, visit AIDSRunWalk.org or call 312-334-0946. Online registration ends Sept. 20.
XS Tennis, Lacoste partner for events
Lacoste and Chicago-based XS Tennis and Education Foundation hosted 300 kids over two hours on July 15 at Grant Park.
The following day, the Lacoste Water Tower Place boutique hosted more than 100 guests for VIP shopping with special Chicago artist Hebru Brantley; a portion of the evening's proceeds will benefit XS Tennis.
According to its website, "XS Tennis provides private and group tennis instruction for ages 3 through adult, from beginner and recreational groups to the XS High Performance Junior Academy and adult leagues."
