Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Andrew Rannells, Matt Bomer and the entire Broadway cast of last year's The Boys in the Band will reunite, along with director Joe Mantello, for a Netflix film adaptation, Deadline noted. Also reprising their roles from the star-packed production are Charlie Carver, Robin de Jesus, Tuc Watkins, Michael Benjamin Washington and Brian Hutchison. "The Broadway cast of Boys was so important to me," producer Ryan Murphy wrote in an Instagram post, "and as equally groundbreaking as Mart Crowley's seminal work." Murphy will be produce the film with David Stone and Ned Martel, with a debut on Netflix in 2020.
Actress Charlize Theron said that her 7-year-old daughter, Jackson, is transgender, LGBTQ Nation noted. "Yes, I thought she was a boy, too," Theron told the Daily Mail. "Until she looked at me when she was 3 years old and said, 'I am not a boy!' ... I will do everything in my power for my kids to have that right and to be protected within that." Theron said that she accepts her daughter.
On June 7, A&M/UMe is set to release Janet Jackson's iconic mega platinum-selling third album, Control, on single vinyl in two different color options: black and translucent red, a press release noted. This will be the first time Control has been reissued on vinyl since the album's initial release on Feb. 4, 1986. The Met is putting on a new exhibitand it's getting some help from actors Ezra Miller and Keiynan Lonsdale, Billboard.com noted. On April 16, Vogue published a feature on The Met's new spring exhibit "Camp: Notes on Fashion," based on Susan Sontag's seminal 1964 essay "Notes on 'Camp.'" The exhibit will take a look at camp fashion throughout history in the context of Sontag's definition of the style, exhalting its "love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration." The exhibit will also provide the theme for this year's annual Met Gala, which is co-chaired by Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Serena Williams, Anna Wintour and Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele.
Madame XMadonna's follow-up to 2015's Rebel Heartwill arrive June 14, Variety noted. The video for the single "Medellin" ( recorded with Maluma ) will arrive during an MTV special called "MTV Presents Madonna Live & Exclusive: 'Medellin Video World Premiere," that will air April 24. Along with Maluma, the album features guest spots from Migos' Quavo, Rae Sremmurd's Swae Lee, Brazilian singer Anitta. After more than four years in the works, Netflix's TV adaptation of the Dr. Seuss classic Green Eggs and Hamfrom executive producer Ellen DeGeneres and Warner Bros. Global-accommodation sharing service Airbnb's first documentary feature film, Gay Chorus Deep South, will have its world premiere at the 18th annual Tribeca Film Festival, RealScreen.com noted. The 100-minute film developed and produced by Airbnb documents the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus as they travel through Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina on its Lavender Pen Tour. Gay Chorus Deep South premieres April 29 at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.
The fifth and final season of Broad City will arrive on DVD on July 9, along with a new Complete Series collection, a press release noted. Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge will reprise their sold-out off-Broadway double bill of solo one-act plays Sea Wall/A Life on Broadway this summer, Deadline noted. Originally presented in February at the Public Theater to strong reviews, Sea Wall/A Life will begin performances on Friday, July 26, at Broadway's Hudson Theatre, with an opening night set for Thursday, Aug. 8. The strictly limited engagement will play through Sunday, Sept. 29.
Phylicia Rashad will make her Broadway directing debut next spring with Charles Randolph-Wright's play Blue, featuring music by Nona Hendryx, Deadline noted. Although Blue will be Rashad's Broadway directing debut, she has directed productions of four August Wilson plays. A New York judge has agreed to let a class-action lawsuit proceed with a sex-trafficking claim against disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein, The Hollywood Reporter noted. U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein eliminated all of the other claims. The lawsuit ( one of several against Weinstein ) was first filed in late 2017 and had 10 plaintiffs alleging he harassed and assaulted them from 1993 to 2011; he is also set to stand trial on criminal sexual assault charges. Weinstein has denied the allegations.
T-shirt designer Mossimo Giannulliwho's married to actress Lori Loughlin and who's been accused of paying bribes to get his daughters into the University of Southern California ( USC )has spoken out about how he lied to his own parents about attending the school while pocketing their tuition payments, Page Six revealed. Back in the 1980s, Giannulli convinced his dad that he was a college student by making bogus report cards. USC confirmed to CNN that Giannulli attended during the spring semester of 1984, but not as a fully matriculated student.
