Touted as the next Adele, retro-sounding singer Rumer graced the stage at Lincoln Hall this past week. Many were looking to see if the British singer could bring the goods and the answer was a resounding "yes." The front crowd was mesmerized, as many gay fans hung on her every word. With a strong backing band, Rumer showcased her album, Seasons of My Soul. She talked about soul singer Aretha and sang her track of the same name. Meeting Elton John was a highpoint for her career, and she described him as a hugger before launching into his "Rocket Man." Her set kept her strumming her guitar while performing "Slow" and "Am I Forgiven?" "Blackbird," in particular, created a special moment.
Although it is easy to compare her to other contemporary British singers, Rumor uses sounds similar to Dusty Springfield, and Karen Carpenter on modern songs while opening the door to a whole new generation. Afterwards she chatted with fans as she took her time, and many didn't want to say "Goodbye Girl" by the end of the night.
