Roscoe's Tavern, 3356 N. Halsted St., will be closed through July 17 because it exceeded its occupancy capacity the day of the Chicago Pride Parade in 2014.
The Boystown bar posted news about its temporary closure on July 13: "Roscoe's will not be open Monday through Friday, July 13th through 17th. Regrettably, on Pride Sunday 2014, we were cited by the City of Chicago for exceeding our allowed occupancy.
"The safety of our customers is, was and always will be our number one priority. We have learned a lot from this experience and have implemented specific procedures to help prevent this from happening again."
Owner Jim Ludwig told Windy City Times that the closure followed a year of appeals with the city after the 2014 violation.
"We're fully disappointed in the process, and fully disappointed in the veracity of the process," said Ludwig. "We finally elected to take what was offered and move on. We'll reopen this Saturday [July 18] with enthusiasm."
The 2014 Pride Parade was marked by many reports of reckless behavior, especially in the hours after the parade. At the July 2015 CAPS meeting for the Town Hall Police District, which contains Boystown, police officials and business owners said the after-hours partying that followed this year's parade proceeded more smoothly, though many residents still complained of disturbances.
