Tracy K. Smith, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in poetry for her book, Life on Mars, read from her latest work, Ordinary Light, at the Women and Children First bookstore on April 23.
Ordinary Light is a memoir that tells the story of her growing up in a large and loving family. It's a story of faith, race, and Smith's vibrant relationship with her mother who died of cancer. Smith read to a large group and explained that the book helped her to a new understanding of herself.
Smith is currently working on translating Chinese poetry for English publication and an opera about Robert Moses, New York's master builder.
