Progressive Groups Launch Campaign Against Congressman Dan Lipinski

Leading progressive groups announced today they are joining together for an unprecedented joint independent expenditure campaign against Congressman Dan Lipinksi ( IL-3 ). NARAL Pro-Choice America, the Human Rights Campaign, SEIU, MoveOn, Planned Parenthood Action Fund and EMILY's List are joining together for a joint campaign to educate voters about Lipinski's record and promote his opponent, Marie Newman.

In his time in Congress, Lipinski voted to block his constituents from care at Planned Parenthood and ban abortions, opposed marriage equality, opposed raising the minimum wage to $15/hour and voted against the Affordable Care Act.

The more than $1 million campaign by the progressive groups will include direct mail, digital persuasion ads, peer-to-peer texting and TV ads. The first mail will drop in the district this week.

You can see the group's first TV ads, which are airing this week, here:

"Dan Lipinski is way out of step with his constituents and has repeatedly voted against women's rights, LGBTQ equality, workers and the basic freedoms that his constituents, and all Americans, hold dear," said Mitchell Stille NARAL's National Campaign Director. "This unprecedented coalition will work every day between now and primary day to ensure voters know Dan Lipinski's real record."

"Dan Lipinski has an abysmal record on LGBTQ equality and the shameful distinction of being the worst-scoring Democrat on the Human Rights Campaign's Congressional Scorecard," said Chris Sgro, Human Rights Campaign Communications Director. "The people of Illinois' third district deserve a champion of equality fighting for each and every one of them in Congress. The Trump-Pence administration is attacking and undermining American values every day, and we need a leader who will stand up to their dangerous and hateful agenda — not enable them."

"From his opposition to a $15 minimum wage and LGBTQ rights to his strong stance against a woman's right to choose, Congressman Dan Lipinski's record is dangerous. And it's closely aligned with the hateful and harmful policies backed by the Trump-Pence administration," said Beniamino Capellupo, executive director of the SEIU Illinois State Council. "The working families of Illinois' 3rd Congressional district—including 10,000 SEIU members—need a progressive champion like Marie Newman in Congress to fight for all Americans and against Trump's divisiveness."

"Dan Lipinski is nothing but a rubber stamp for Donald Trump's agenda when it comes to immigration, choice and LGBTQ rights," said Matt Blizek, MoveOn's Election Mobilization Director. "His record is way out of step with his district. Illinois needs a strong representative who will stand up to Trump and stand with their constituents. We're confident the more voters learn about Lipinski's record the more they'll want to vote him out of office. MoveOn members are excited to work over the next month to make sure Marie Newman wins and the people of this district get the representative they deserve."

"Dan Lipinski has rubber stamped the Trump-Pence agenda to undermine women's control over their own lives and bodies," said Deirdre Schifeling, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood Action Fund. "Lipinski has voted time and time again to block his constituents from accessing birth control, cancer screenings, and STI testing at Planned Parenthood, and wants to make abortion illegal.Everyone deserves the freedom and opportunity to make the health care decisions that are best for their own futures without politicians like Dan Lipinski interfering. That's why it's essential that Marie Newman wins in March."
